Fourteen-fold Blessing
I was doing a sports climb at Kings Kloof in Krugersdorp but
only had 7 quickdraws. A complete set of quickdraws would be between 10 and 12.
During the climb on one of the walls, I was 1 quickdraw short of summiting the
climb, but spotted a quickdraw on the last bolt, which meant that I could make
it all the way to the top. I took the quickdraw home after the climb and was
quite happy since I now had 8 quickdraws meaning that I would be able to do a
handful of climbs with 8 bolts. I saw on the climbing forum (Lost and found
section) that someone would like the quickdraw back if anyone could get it off
the last bolt on that route. I really wanted to keep this quickdraw, because
with 7 of them I would have to buy a new one which cost about R160 on average. I
eventually felt the right thing to do is to let the guy know I have his
quickdraw and give it back. After making the decision I posted on the forums
asking if anyone would like to sell an old quickdraw or 2. A lady replied to
the post saying that she would give me her old set for free. The set had 14
quickdraws and I also got a free sling. It was amazing how giving up the one
quickdraw meant receiving 14 in return. It was great to see how God blesses obedience.
